The girl next door

by Robin Rutherford

Sell me paper, show me marks,
I'm hungry for your flesh and larks,
The only one who owns my heart
You're part of me for ever.

I learned the pavement, you the staves,
Where the bare girls jumped the waves,
You taught me to whistle and not behave,
All inside shoes and outside clever.

I swam to your boat, you hauled me aboard,
All make believe seas and tangled cord,
You'd set up our home and my reward,
I'm part of you for ever.
