Step by step guide to submitting a Short Story

Print this page

Only registered members can upload work onto this site. For instructions on how to register click here.

If your work is MORE than 3000 words; please go to Step by step guide to submitting Fiction.

Before you start to upload your work, make sure you’ve got everything ready, in the correct format. This is what you’ll need:

 A short 'blurb' , typically between 10 and 30 words, similar to what you’d expect to find on the back cover of a paperback. This is your chance to grab the attention of the reading public, so make it as clear and exciting as you can. If you want to copy and paste this from an existing file, alternatively, you can just type it straight into the Sales Blurb box.

 The full text, is to be entered in the next text box. If you want to copy and paste this from an existing file, alternatively, you can just type it straight into the Sales Blurb box.

 A picture (which is optional) to help your work stand out from the crowd. This could be a ‘front cover’ design, a relevant picture, or maybe just a photograph of yourself. Images must not exceed 500k and must be in .JPG format. Refer to your own imaging software for conversion instructions.

When everything is ready and saved on your computer, follow these simple steps. Please note that if you have a problem at any stage of this process, you can email Rowena, our technical wizzard, via our contact form, or you can send us your work by email or on disc and we’ll load it for you.

Step 1 – Click on Writer Login/Register in the blue navigation bar above.
Step 2 – Enter your registered email address and password, and click on Login.
Step 3 – Click on Add New Work.
Step 4 - Click on the arrow alongside Type of Work and select short story.
Step 5 - If you want to include a picture (which is already stored on your computer) click on the Browse button alongside where it says Image. Select the saved file you want to use and click on it. Please note that if you want to leave the picture for now and add one at a later date, you can do that.
Step 6 – Type the Title of your work in the next field.
Step 7 – EITHER type your Blurb into the white box, overwriting the text already there, OR copy and paste the text you want to use,
Step 8 – To upload your Full Text, type it into the white box, marked 'your poem/short story', overwriting the text already there, OR copy and paste the text you want to use. remember to check your work on the site once it is uploaded as anomalies in text characters can result with pasted text, this can be easily correctly manually.
If you want to upload an audio version of the full text, click on the Browse button where it says MP3 and select your saved audio file.
Step 9 – Select the Category that you would like your submission to appear in, from the dropdown menu. If you can’t find a suitable category, you can ask for others to be included via our contact form
Step 10 – If you want your book to appear on the site straightaway, check the Show on Site box. If you want to take a breather at this point and come back to it later, don’t check the box (your work will still be available for you to view and edit, but won’t appear on the site to the general public until you’re ready).
And finally – Click on Add Work. (Please note that you need to click on Add Work, whether you want it to appear on the site straightaway or not.)

Congratulations, you are now a published writer on My Book Live.
