House of Hope

by Sarah Newell

Is it possible for the warm earth of Provence to banish the chill from a marriage that has been too long in the shade?

She is coming down over the familiar golden land. As she is pulled closer toward the warm earth, a queasy blend of dread and mourning rise up in the woman with her face pressed to the window over the wing. There they are, the same fields of barley and vines, pierced by the pencils of cypress trees.
