A Northern Lass

by May Parker

This book began as a short history of Birkenhead and Liverpool, with a peek behind the scenes of life for the author's grandchildren who were born and continue to live in America.
Living in what was then known as the north end of Birkenhead in other words the common edge of the town - the author's family ensured they retained a strict and respectable lifestyle with dignity.
The reader's journey through chapters and years encounters not only historical changes, but also pleasure, catastrophe and a deep yearning to love and be loved.
Poignant and with a touch of humour, the reader is transported to another time, place and way of life.
A percentage of proceeds on sales of this book will be donated to Claire House, a charity caring for children from birth to 23 years suffering life-threatening or life-limiting conditions and their families from Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. Children's hospices are dedicated to enhancing quality of life, providing specialist respite, palliative, terminal and bereavement care.
